Application for the Research or Program Evaluation Award in Geropsychology Training

CoPGTP’s mission includes promoting state-of-the art education and training in professional geropsychology. This small grant program aims to support one project each year for up to $1,500. To be eligible to participate, PIs must be part of a CoPGTP member program.

Please note that we now welcome applications from mentored students in CoPGTP member programs reflecting investigations in the field of geropsychology broadly. We also continue to welcome applications from students as well as faculty members that address geropsychology training at graduate, internship, postdoctoral, and/or post-licensure levels. Projects may also address efforts to foster interest in working with older adults beginning as early as the undergraduate or high school level.  Both quantitative and qualitative methodologies are eligible. Collaborations across training programs are encouraged. Ideally eligible projects will explain how they might ultimately lead to improved practices beyond one’s local program. Information about previously funded projects is available on the CoPGTP website: https://copgtp.org/awards-grants/ Additional examples of training-focused projects may include investigations of the following:

  • Student perspectives on training needs and methods (e.g., effectiveness of supervision in geropsychology)
  • Faculty/supervisor perspectives on providing education/training in the field
  • Development of methods for fostering interest in the field of geropsychology
  • Outcomes of a new training method/offering
  • Use of the Pikes Peak geropsychology competency evaluation tool to inform development and/or evaluation of a training program/offering
  • Strategies/methods for evaluating development of geropsychology attitude, knowledge, and skill competencies
  • Special issues in geropsychology supervision

Once an awardee is selected, local R&D/IRB approval for the project will be requested. Projects that are selected for funding are eligible for immediate disbursement of the funds and the CoPGTP Treasurer will arrange payment. Funds are to be used for direct costs of the project including (but not limited to) purchase of materials necessary to carry out project, payments to research participants, and payments to a research assistant. CoPGTP will not fund payments for investigator time or for any indirect costs. This fund pays no F&A (Facilities and Administrative costs) to the institution.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis/no deadline. Applications can be sent electronically to CoPGTPsec@gmail.com or submitted via our websiteProjects will be reviewed and selected by the CoPGTP Board.
